This is a true story.
A lesbian couple ordered sperm to conceive a child. During pregnancy they were informed of a clerical error - the sperm was African-American, despite the women requesting white (they were both caucasian). The couple sued for $50,000 in compensation, despite loving and raising the child as their own, claiming that there were unforeseen difficulties of raising a mixed-race child: racial intolerance from family and community, and for driving farther away to get a decent haircut from another community that made them feel less than welcome. Critics of their lawsuit suggested that - if it were to be successful - it would encourage African Americans to do the same, since they face similar (and additional) hardships from the society they live in.
